The Ruby Door was founded in the spring of 2004 by owner and jewelry designer Tracey Weiss in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill. A graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelors and Masters degree in economics and accounting, Tracey had abandoned her family’s artistic side to pursue a career in business that she found unrewarding.
Guided by her fantastically stylish mother and sister who were both established with creative businesses of their own, Tracey decided to turn her long-time love for gemstones and jewelry into a livelihood. She brought the Ruby Door, filled with her exclusive jewelry line, Miller Grove Designs, to Boston to fill a niche in the jewelry and accessories climate of the city: timeless, creative and effortlessly chic jewelry and accessories that will last and be relevant for a lifetime, but don’t have to cost a fortune.
Over time the collections in the boutique grew to include other designers whose work Tracey could not resist, and in December 2005 she moved the store to a larger and stunning new location at 15 Charles Street. In the spring of 2008 the boutique expanded again to include vintage and antique home accessories in an adjoining space. Like the jewelry she so carefully selects, the home accessories are very special: all one of a kind and reflecting various design genres. You might find anything from a pair of old architectural brackets from Cairo to a vintage european crystal chandelier to an antique set of china with just the right “look.”
All the pieces in boutique reflect Tracey’s outlook on life: special things are for everyone and are to be enjoyed and loved. Jewelry is to be worn, every day and in every situation, and it shouldn’t define a woman, but should light her up and bring out her inherent beauty. It should make her feel fabulous. As always, custom work is offered and encouraged and the boutique works with a fabulous master bench jeweler to offer specialty bridal jewelry.
Price points in the boutique vary from under $25 dollars to in the few thousands and whether you want to aspire to something that is more of an investment or just pick up a small, but well-made purchase, everything is accessible.
